What do people mean when they talk about meaning?
A thing X will be perceived as meaningful in context C to the extent that it’s connected to other meaningful things in C. Thus the bigger reason to separate meaning from pleasure is that pleasure is a strictly subjective experience. But in terms of complexity, we’re huge. As far as we know, we and our societies take the prize for being the most complex structures the universe has yet evolved. So « through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence. »
